Mara produces, shoots, directs and edits. Prior to branching out to other roles, she worked full time as a professional film editor for over a decade and has extensive experience telling stories in myriad formats, styles, and media.

She is drawn to stories centering social, political, and economic issues and has edited numerous theatrical and broadcast documentaries, including projects for Alex Gibney, Martin Scorsese, Ava Duvernay, and Katie Couric.

Notable features include There Is My Home, winner of best documentary at the Lewiston Film Festival, Vote Jesus, winner of an Accolade Award, and Gubernatorious, a film about Arnold Schwarzenegger's run for California governor. Recent television credits include Death Row Stories (CNN, Alex Gibney) America Inside Out (ABC, Katie Couric), Born Wild (NatGeo, Robin Roberts), Locked up in America, (A&E, Ludacris), and Covid 19 (ABC News). Additional credits include No Direction Home: Bob Dylan (Martin Scorsese) and Voices In The Tunnels: In Search Of The Mole People (Vic David).

 

Mara holds two B.A.s and two M.A.s, one from NYU in sociology and one in media studies from New School University. With Storm the Castle, her mission is to approach independent storytelling on the basis of collaboration, creativity, equal access, and mutual support.

 

Storm the Castle Productions focuses on telling stories that challenge prevailing viewpoints and change who controls the narrative.
